As of recent it seems to be creating 3 copies of the images instead of just one. Also I use the pressthis feature if that is helpful.

@silentwisher is this with the 1.2.4 update applied or are you still on an earlier version?

We haven’t made any changes that should/could have caused multiple image copies being uploaded.

The site in question is running on the latest version.

What video, or videos have you been trying that have been causing the multiple image? I’m doubtful that that’s an issue, but never hurts to double test.

Does the issue go away if you have all other plugins deactivated? Especially any plugins that modify media library functionality, or image optimization?

Videos are being saved from YouTube, just tested again just now after deactivating the plugin and reactivating, still have 3 of the same image being created. Weirdly enough when looking at the library I noticed its generating three images but using the “middle” image for the featured.

Deactivating and then re-activating ours, isn’t probably going to do much. I’m more curious what other plugins you have active and installed that may be doing things with your media library content.

Beyond that it’s hard for us to troubleshoot this specific issue as we’re not getting that same behavior.

Do you have any other plugins that are media-library focused?

Not managing to recreate with any of those admittedly, so if any of them are playing a part in the issue, I haven’t figured out the matching configuration. So I’m back at square one.

Any ideas on how I can further investigate?

Only other ideas I have would be plugins being disabled until the issue goes away and then re-enabling slowly until the issue comes back. That said, that list should be able to be limited to just plugins that integrate with the media library, much like the list you mentioned above.

Found the culprit! Contacting them as well ??

Drum roll…..Its being caused by RankMath.

    Thanks for the followup.

Another follow up, after thinking it was rank math and nuking it from our install…its happening again. This time is only 2x the feature images, I’ve noticed with some more testing that as soon as I use the pressthis plugin/bookmarklet it makes a featured image, however as soon as a press save on the post popup, it generates a second one.

At this point, my best guess is that something is triggering the save_post action hook multiple times, and that’s causing some of our code to run multiple times as well.

I appreciate you taking the time to help me with all this. Its been driving me a bit mad haha. Do you have any recommendations I could take? I tried looking through the bookmarklet code as well and its mostly gibberish to me.

Since I can’t manage to recreate, it still has to be something with your specific install and the combination of everything, so my recommendation at https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/3x-images/#post-18031127 is still what I’d end up suggesting. At bare minimum, all other plugins deactivated, and your current theme still active. See if it still happens then, and then if yes, switch to one of the Twenty* themes and try once more. That’d allow you to determine that it’s either your current theme, or one of the plugins.
