• I would like to ask of the developers if they would consider packing 4 default templates with every WP stable release.
1st Template: the included default layout
2nd template: a 3 column version of the included default layout
3rd template: the basic layout but at a centered, fixed width (ala Greeny, Kubrick, etc.)
4th template: 3 column version of the 3rd template
I’m not asking for anymore to be done to the current layout that comes packed with WP other than to just alter it so that it is available in the 3 other layouts.
From what I’ve seen, I think these are pretty much the majority of layouts you see on other WP sites.
Am I asking too much? From a design and coding view I don’t know, i don’t know what it takes to get 3 addt’l layouts like this accomplished.
But this way you would give people 4 great alternatives – this is great for those who don’t have a lot of coding skill, and those who don’t want to wait for other 3rd party Theme developers to “catch-up” to the latest release of WP (ala Kubrick, Lee’s templates, etc.)
Take this though further and with every alpha release the templates should still be able to work, again, not having to worry about toerh 3rd party templates not working, etc.
IMHO I think this would be a HUGE draw for people considering WP – having it come packed with 4 layouts to choose from instead of hunting and searching and customizing either from scratch or other templates, having to figure out how to make 3 columns, etc. etc.
So that’s my 2 cents< I hope it’s not asking much but it’s something i’d personally love to see, and maybe if anyone else thinks it’s a good idea they could respond here at least get the developers to think hard about it ??
    Thanks WP.

  • Huh?

Oh please, just read the rest of the posts before you say “Huh?” It’s like only watching the last five minutes of a movie and saying, “Huh?”

For the record, a search for Kubrick doesn’t bring up any such thread, they are all quite recent straightforward requests for support. Try it yourself if you don’t believe me.
This is slightly OT but I for one am sick of constantly being patronised and ordered to search, as if I hadn’t already. How many of these people actually carry out these searches before telling other posters to? My guess is not many, because if they did they would already know the answers aren’t there!
I also agree with macmanx about there being a lot of negativity surrounding Kubrick, anyone who recommends it or dares to suggest it could be packaged with WordPress gets called a ‘troll’ or a ‘snake-oil salesman’. The OP made a really good point about shipping a choice of templates with WordPress, if one of them was Kubrick would that really be SO terrible? Obviously the idea is very upsetting to certain people and because of that it is unlikely to happen, but I will just say it is very sad and baffling to me how bitter some of you seem to be about Michael’s achievement, especially when so many of you are using Kubrick yourselves!

Listen – no-one is bitter about Kubrick. I’m certainly not, and I don’t use it. Kubrick is a fine piece of work that has done much good for WP, and Michael is to be congratulated for this.
What we do not need however are the template evangelists who insist that one thing is better than another – it isn’t as ‘better’ is a relative term.
I do see what the OP meant, but the matter is now in the hands of the devs – and no amount of forum posting or name-changing is going to change anything on that point.
And if you cannot find the thread being referred to, good – it means it has been deleted, and that is a very good thing. Do not slam those who told you to search – even if was still around we don’t need to read it again.
And ‘Kubrick Fan’ – your opinion may carry some more weight if you registered properly and allowed us to see your site. As it stands, you are effectively ‘Anon’

I am not :). But i am recently doing a collab with michael on the same template, but to integrate it with pictorialis ( a wordpress hybrid for photoblog). Basically it means stripping down a lot of stuff :). I will keep posting.

Oh when i said ‘i am not’, i mean i am not using kubrick, not that i am not an ‘Anon’ whcih i am really not but…….
*i think its time to take my mediacation pills again. *sigh**
Chill guys, its thanksgiving, here hot coffee for everyone…..cool~~~
