Changing to 4.0.1 Word Press Made Text White in Visual Editor (and thus made it invisible unless I highlight the text). Have already tried dumping cache, disabling plug ins, and various prayers to the saints who have oversight for WordPress.

Try switching to the Twenty Fourteen theme to rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

If that doesn’t resolve the situation, try downloading WordPress again and delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

Thanks – tried changing themes and reinstalling 4.0.1 and no luck. Also can’t activate button to insert media files in page. So far as I know all of our files are on the server. So I am not sure what you want I should upload, etc.

Do you mean you did delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download, or didn’t?

Also, are you using any sort of caching plugin, or do you see a “Clear/Purge Cache” button in your Dashboard or admin bar? If so, would you please try clearing the cache?

Note: You do not need to install a caching plugin at this point just to clear a cache you don’t have. If you don’t have a caching plugin or a way to clear a server-level cache, just say so. ??

I have a similar problem on one of my websites, however, if I mouse over the visual editor area in the backend, there seems to be no text to highlight, as if it is not there, but you can see the text in the text editor.

It is the same in any of the WordPress Themes (i.e. 2014). I have reinstalled the version 4.0.1 without any difference.

Any help is appreciated. We were just fine prior to the update.

Got it! For me, the plug-in WP Admin Custom Page by Dario Bassanesi was causing a conflict with v. 4.0.1.

My advice, disable your plug-ins and you will likely find your problem.

The OP already tried that per their original post, that’s why we always recommend opening your own thread. ??

Either way, glad you found a solution!
