I’ve been building my site’s content in a subdirectory. Last night I decided I had enough to go ahead and make it public. So I contacted my host about directory index settings and they provided instructions. Now people going to my domain name will see the site’ content without the need for redirects. However, I started getting some 404/403 errors. I briefly enabled indexes and instead of getting the 404/403 errors, I got the directory listing; which isn’t acceptable. I put all the directory index and index settings back to where they were at the outset.

Meanwhile I had also fiddled with the URL path in general settings. I believe I have it back to where it was at the outset.

Anyway, not I cannot get my home page to show at all. I can go into my dashboard or any other page without any problems, but I get a 403 error when I try to go to my site’s home page (either my just entering the domain or with the full path – https://www.ezysetup.com/ezy/index.php).

I would appreciate any guidance on this matter.

    Thank you in advance,
    Andrew

Never mind. After several hours effort, I got it figured out. It was a combination of the ‘duplicate home page’ issue (found in several threads), plus my host’s directory index settings.

My wordpress install (which is also a subdirectory) was working until it went down for a while (comcast problems) and now the wordpress subdirectory gives a 403 and all the posts, etc. give a simple “Access Denied” The admin interface is fine, however, anyone have any ideas?

I no longer have Comcast, but I would first check out the ‘index’ settings for your site. You will likely need to define “subdirectory/index.php.

Also note that if you have Comcast set to provide IIS/Windows hosting then make sure your permalinks settings are at the default. IIS does not support permalinks.

If none of that helps then check out the threads on ‘duplicate home page’.

I hope this helps. I’m sorry that I have no specific instructions for you.
