• Just setup the Multisite ability on my domain. Double checked all the steps to see if I missed anything and nothing seems to be out of the ordinary.

I’m getting a 403 error for all front-end and backend pages for all sites.

    I’m using the sub-domain option.

I created two sites within the Super Admin settings. Both the root URLs (site.domain.com and site2.domain.com) and /wp-admin (site.domain.com/wp-admin/ and site2.domain.com/wp-admin/) pages show 403 errors.

Any suggestions? Be glad to answer any questions or provide more information. Don’t really know where to start. I searched the forum for 403 errors, but after looking through the first 4 pages none of the questions had to do with Multisite so I decided to post.

  • Did you enable wildcard subdomains on your server and/or ask your host if they supported them? ??

Yep. Added * as an A record and called GoDaddy to confirm. I had to talk to three people before someone knew wth I was talking about, but they said it would work. I waited 4 days from the time I added the A record to the time I finished the Multisite integration.

403 is access forbidden. Not something you should be able to get from WordPress. Can you double check that there aren’t actual NAMED subdomains for site and site2?

I have never created a sub-domain on this domain.

Doesn’t mean some ‘helpful’ person at GoDaddy didn’t do it for you ??

Ask GoDaddy if they have mod_security turned on. They may need to loosen the setup for your account.

Did any of the “helpful” staff at godaddy also state you needed a dedicated IP from them (their rule, not wordpress)?

And the wordpress install has to be the main account on that IP?

So when you type the IP address in, you should see your website.

    Hmmm.

This install is not on the main account. I have multiple domains registered with them. My person website is the domain listed for the hosting account.

I have a dedicated IP on a shared server.
