• Since upgrading my Mac operating system to Catalina last week, when I type “localhost” into the URL bar of the browser I get a 403 Forbidden error that brings up a page that says “Forbidden You don’t have permission to access / on this server.” I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling MAMP twice, same result. (I believe I naively managed to delete my database files by doing this, but that’s water under the bridge at this point.) I’ve checked the sharing and permissions on all folders and I have “read & write” permissions set. Could anyone please advise as to what I could do? I’ve contacted MAMP support but they are no help (they wrote back “Please, can you reinstall MAMP PRO under root/admin permissions,” whatever that means). I contacted Apple support, they have no idea. And I’ve spent an entire day searching Google with no solution. Do you have any idea what steps I can take to solve this, or who I can contact who would be “hands-on” and do a screen share with me or whatever? Happy to pay them. I’m at a dead end. Thanks very much if you can help.

  • Take a look at this article:
    https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/372076/macos-catalina-doesnt-allow-mamp-permission-to-certain-folders-documents-down

I NEVER upgrade OSX in the first few months after a release for this reason. I always wait for enough support docs to populate the web…

Thank you very much, @jaycbrf, that explains the issue.

A bit frustrating that 2nd level support at Apple had no idea, support at MAMP, no idea. MAMP should actually have this posted on their website and/or have sent out alerts to users, rather than giving the advice to reinstall, whereby I lost my database.

I’ve got the same problem, except the instructions on that link didn’t work for me. I’ve tried everything and I’m about to lose two months of work if I can’t get it fixed.

You don’t have permission to access / on this server.

I know we have cables under the sea apparently around South Africa and its affecting my host

I dont want to miss traffic while Im trying to set up Google Adsense

Do you think that the cables are the only reason as I have done all the other trouble shooting

For a day yesterday things were fine but later in the evening I got problems like this again with this plug in

a one solution look at me
