There are LOADS of issues on this, but they all seem fairly old posts, and i actually couldnt find any fix for it still.

Every time i try to update a post, or permalinks, or any other admin area options, it hangs for a short while, then goes to a 404 page.

Im able to deactivate some plugins, but i get sent to a 404 if i try delete plugins. Im also sent a to a 404 if i try to simply reinstall wordpress.

Any ideas why this would happen? or where to even start looking to try and resolve this?

Try re-saving your permalink structure at Admin panel>>>Settings>>>Permalinks. WordPress will either create/rebuild the .htaccess file. If WordPress cannot automatically edit the .htaccess file( if it is not writable), then WordPress will provide manual instructions after saving the correct block of code so that you can manually add it to your .htaccess file. -Try resetting your custom permalinks back to the default setting and renaming your WordPress .htaccess file. If that works, then try reading Using_Permalinks before setting a custom permalink structure again. If clearing your Permalinks does not alleviate the issue, this could be attributed to anything from a web server configuration to a bad WordPress install.

    Didnt really work…

Also, when im trying to add a featured image, the media library wont load any thumbs either (this also causes the wordpress connection to drop sometimes)

Was a server issue, needed an update applied to varnishcache
