• I keep getting 404 Error messages. Some of the pages I was getting a 404 error for didn’t even exist and now it is giving me 404 error messages for pages that do exist. I switched my permalink to the post name earlier, then I read in other wordpress forums that changing from the default permalink may be the cause. I changed back to the default and got another error message because I put the permalinks back to default.

  • I’m seeing 404 errors on indexed pages like this one: https://revolutionhtx.com/our-info/

Chances are these pages no longer exist or the URL (the web address) has been changed.

Can you give an example of a page that exists but is showing you a 404 error?

I got a 404 error on a couple of my event pages for the calendar but I am not sure which specific pages they were.I deleted the OUR INFO page that is giving the 404 error. Also I had an about us page that it showed a 404 error for.
I don’s know a lot about spiders or indexing but will it hurt my page if it thinks these pages are broken when they either work fine or do not exist.

If the pages don’t exist, then a 404 error is the right response. I saw a 404 for an event page, but that may be because the even is past.

The problem, from the point of view of SEO and indexing, would only arise if you have links to the page that is gone. The spiders will crawl to the linked page and not find it.

Make sure that any links are corrected or redirected. Contact other sites that might have linked to the page. Then you’ll probably be just fine.

What would cause a 404 error for pages that do exist?
Another thing I am now seeing with the web master tool and bing webmaster is my website is redirecting them but I do not know where. If I type the name of the site in a search engine and click on the site it goes to all of the pages, what could be causing the redirect? The plugin that I have that does redirect is not active but could that be the cause. I did a malware scan on my site and it came back clean.

Can you give me an example of a page that exists but throws a 404 error? Often this kind of thing is caused by a redirect problem.

The calendar events that are giving errors are not past events. I those are the only pages I can think of right now I didn’t know to keep the other error messages so I deleted them. Most of the error codes are deleted pages. These are some of the error links I got from bing master, https://revolutionhtx.com/feed/,
    https://revolutionhtx.com/404javascript.js, https://revolutionhtx.com/404testpage4525d2fdc.
I do not know if this is what cause the redirect or not. I just did another fetch with bing webmaster and did not get n error message but it is still redirecting…

If you have current pages that show a 404 error, that’s a problem. However, the error codes that show for pages that don’t exist are not a problem.

In Webmaster Tools, you can mark the errors as corrected. As long as you don’t have links going to the deleted pages, that should solve the problem.

Is there a way I can find out what the problem would be? I just tried fetching with Webmaster Tools on a page I know is there and it redirected. I guess why this confuses me is if I search for the site I can find it and I am not redirected to another site. Webmaster Tools says it recognized website with www. and non-www the same. Like I said before I checked for malware on the webpage and it came back clean.
