• Hi,

I have looked at other posts on 404 errors before posting this but none of them seem to apply to me. I didn’t change the configuration or any urls. I updated to 3.9.1, and since then have issues with the two things I added — a page and a blog post. Was I supposed to log out and log back in after upgrading or something?

    My site is katedeimling.com

I created a page called links which appears in my dashboard and says it’s published but can’t be seen on my site.

I then wrote a blog post titled “Louvre Abu Dhabi Has Commissioned an Installation from Jenny Holzer.” The URL resembles that of my other posts and the preview shows up on the homepage, but when I click it on I get the 404 message.

I’m really only proficient at the basics here and I don’t know what to do next to figure this problem out, so any suggestions would be most welcome!

    Thanks,
    Kate

  • Try resetting your custom permalinks back to the default setting via Settings -> Permalinks. If this works, then review Using_Permalinks before setting a custom permalink structure back up again.

    Hi Esmi,

Thanks so much for your advice — I changed back to the default permalink setting and the 404 problem is solved.

However, I’m having trouble figuring out the right way to return to pretty Permalinks. I didn’t have a custom link, but was using the “post name” option offered by WordPress.

I read over “Using Permalinks” but am a bit lost. I’m a Mac user and the instructions are pointing me to /private/etc/apache2/users/[your-username].conf for editing my httpd.conf file. When I go to my web hosting panel (Bluehost), I don’t know how to see if the Apache web server has the mod_rewrite module installed. I’m also unsure how to find WordPress’s home directory. Would it be possible for you to point me in the right direction again? Thanks!

Hola.

    Gracias
