• Hi there

Ok, so i am truly baffled here.. I have 4 wordpress sites that i have just moved from godaddy over to hostgator.

One of the site i moved to a .com domain from .co.za and used a scripting tool to change all the urls. I then changed the site to use the post-name permalink and everything works perfectly fine.

The next site was same domain to same domain, moved it across and changed the permalink to the one listed above too and all works fine.

The next two sites, i did exactly the same process as the 2nd site but with both of these sites, only default permalinks work and i cannot use any other permalink option?!?

With hostgator (i am sure most of you will know) you have one site which is your main site and then further sites are directories under that site. Now the two sites that are having this issue is the main site and one subdirectory sites and the two that work are both subdirectory sites?!

I have tried renaming the .htaccess file in the main folder (there isn’t one in any of the other sites subdirectories?!?) and creating a new one, i have tried manually changing the info in the .htaccess file but all to no avail.

I haven’t been in touch with the host to see if the option to write to the file is switched on because it obviously is if 2 of the sites are working fine?!

So now i am TOTALLY baffled and have no idea where to go from here so any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Hello,

I’m having the same problem, moving from a dedicated server to Hostgator.

Were you able to find a solution to your problem?

    Thanks,
    B.

Does your hosting provider provide support?

@ricardusexa They sort of do ?? I had a live chat session with support yesterday, and the guy couldn’t make head or tails of the situation.

So I decided to search for answers elsewhere for the time being.

The site still works properly on the old server, when I modify my hosts file to direct my PC there. The old server is a regular Plesk panel dedicated server, with no special mods.

No wait, i lie.. I did search on the hostgator site and found some info but eventually it was one of their live chat team that fixed the problem for me and both sites were literally done in the matter of minutes. He knew exactly what to fix from his side.. Unfortunately i didn’t save the conversation so i don’t even know who dealt with my query.. Maybe keep logging on to their online chat till you get someone that can fix it!?

    Hello thefugitive,

Thank you very much for your reply. I will keep logging to live chat as you’ve suggested.

I’ll post my findings for future reference ??
