This page is supposed to show all of my blog posts under that category but every time I click on it, it shows up as 404. I tried to create a brand new category multiple times but each new category I make is showing up as a 404. All of my other categories are fine.

I called WordPress support and they said it was an issue that will happen with any new category going forward and wanted to charge me $150 to have someone fix it. I’m hoping someone here can help me figure it out, but I feel like it is probably a simple troubleshooting issue and doesn’t need to be $150 to fix.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Have you tried going to Settings->Permalinks and re-saving your permalinks? You don’t even have to change anything, just click save.

Also, Googling your problem can come up with a lot of decent suggestions. WordPress is one of the best documented pieces of software EVAR. Here’s what I came up with in <5 seconds: https://www.dev-metal.com/quick-fix-404-error-wordpress-category-tag-page/

Yes, and that did not work for me.

    Clarification: “I called WordPress support”
-There is no phone number for www.ads-software.com support. This support area is managed by volunteers.

    Maybe you called:
-a private company or your webhosting vendor that offers paid support services that can help with some WordPress issues.
    —-
-You can use https://jobs.wordpress.net/ if you feel like you want/need to hire someone to help with various issues on your site.

Okay, that doesn’t really fix my issue at all but thank you.

@thetinyherbivore It always helps to tell folks what you’ve already tried doing which didn’t help, so we can avoid beating around the bush. But continuing on further with Google never hurts, especially if you don’t want to pay a pro. Sometimes the people helping you for free here are just Googling themselves, trying to help you.

    @contentiskey Praise be.

Hi @thetinyherbivore – let me ask a silly question if I may, can you show the category setup in the admin for Beauty? A screenshot will do. It would be helpful to see it’s configuration.

    Kind regards,
    Charlene

    (@thetinyherbivore)

Yes I have Googled for weeks and haven’t been able to fix the problem myself, so I’m asking for others help since www.ads-software.com doesn’t have a real support team. Your reply didn’t really help my situation at all considering I’m trying to find some sort of help that doesn’t involve me having to hire someone (which I made pretty clear) if it’s an issue that I’m just overseeing because I don’t know enough about this to possibly Google the right things.

    Thanks!

@cmspencer99 where exactly would I find the set up? Do you mean like going to the categories page, clicking edit on the Beauty category and screenshotting that? It’s pretty blank!

Hi @thetinyherbivore – yes that exactly please from the admin, can you also provide the setup for ‘wellness’ which appears to be working fine?

Also, can we assume there have not been any code changes to your theme/plugins except standard updates lately?

    Kind regards,
    Charlene

    (@thetinyherbivore)

@cmspencer99 Not sure how else to insert the images so here’s the link to the two screenshots. I have not changed the theme at all and only get standard updates to everything!

So @thetinyherbivore looks like the config for these is fine, I can however see that I’m not getting a 404, I’m getting a 410 status code when I review your site in chromes network tab.

    Request URL: https://thetinyherbivore.com/category/beauty/
    Request Method: GET
    Status Code: 410
    Remote Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:443
    Referrer Policy: unsafe-url

Have you any custom redirects set up on your site?

    Kind regards,
    Charlene

    Thread Starter thetinyherbivore

    (@thetinyherbivore)

@cmspencer99 I do! I have one redirect link set up using the plug in “Quick Redirects” I’ve had it set up for a while. Should I delete it?

    Thread Starter thetinyherbivore

    (@thetinyherbivore)

@cmspencer99 Wait, I just looked up under SEO a redirect section and it looks like I deleted a previous category months ago also called Beauty. It says 410 as the code.

    Thread Starter thetinyherbivore

    (@thetinyherbivore)

    @cmspencer99 This is what I see: 410

Hi @thetinyherbivore it’s hard to say if that would interfere or not but a 410 status is different to a 404 – usually it’s related to deleted content. Any changes you do try and make sure you have a backup first, so you can get things changed back if needed.

It’s going to be relatively hard for anyone to debug remotely to be honest with you.

    Kind regards,
    Charlene
