Immediately after upgrading to 4.4.1, I am unable to visit/return to /wp-admin.

I’ve seen this on two different sites today, in two different hosting accounts. Note that I can get into specific pages within the admin area, just not the Dashboard itself.

    Is this a known problem?

FWIW: I can get to …/wp-admin/index.php but not …/wp-admin/ (for example, via the admin bar link which links to the directory, not the index page within it, resulting in a 404 error).

    Hi,

So if you go to /wp-admin/index.php you get access to the full dashboard as expected?

I have the same problem. Can’t acess admin pagers. Front end was working ok until I trie to log in into admin. Now I’m getting err_too_many_redirections. For both front end and back end. /wp-admin/index.php is also not working.

Problem solved! I was blocked by hosting provider. Must be something because of their settings.

websta you should check your hosting provider.

i am also facing same problem. /wp-admin is giving 404 error ( if security plugin and any other plugin installed) without any plugin i am getting error “The page isn’t redirecting properly”

Hi, I also have problems with the site. I do not see anymore the whole site there is a message: Access Denied, Error 403 e.g. The problem appeared immediately after the WP 4.4.1 automatic updates. So what can I do?

I have the same problem. Auto updated over night, now getting 404 on all pages. I can get into the Dashboard if I manually type wp-admin/index.php but not otherwise

    Hi,

So getting a 404 error when just accessing /wp-admin/ but not if you go to /wp-admin/index.php indicates it’s a server configuration issue (it isn’t recognizing index.php as a default file).

Just for fun, once you are in the admin interface try going to Settings > Permalinks and saving them twice (yup, twice ?? ), but I’d check with your host if they made any changes if index files aren’t being viewed as default files.

    Hi all,

The issue for me was updates to ModSecurity firewall rules in cPanel. After I disabled the rules #214620 & #214940 the WordPress sites are now working again.

It appears that those rules were updated on 29th December, and the issue has only come to light in the last 48 hours as the 4.4.1 update is installed.

I hope this helps, if you don’t know how to fix the above you should pass it onto your web hosting provider.

    Regards,

    Andy Readman

Yes that it was ModSecurity rules my hosting company fixed the error ??
