• Hello, recently I’ve been getting an error message, 404, page not found after publishing my post, then trying to share it on social media. If I change the permalink to defualt instead of post name it seems to resolve the issue, but I don’t want the default permalink.

I entered tags in the category and tag base and that seemed to resolve the issue for a while, but as of today I’m getting the same error message.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

  • Strange – At first, when I tried it I got a 404 – I ran it through facebook’s debugging tools, everything seemed to check out, and now it works – can you try again?

    thanks!

Bryan, thank you that worked! So, do you have any idea why this randomly keeps happening? This will be the third time??

Thank you again for your help!

Hmmm – have you made any changes to the site? When adjusting permalinks it can take some time for facebook to reload the article data, so you might see a 404 in that case.

No, I haven’t made any changes to the site, and it’s only a few weeks old. It seems to just randomly happen??

Very strange – I tried it today and it worked! maybe its an intermittent hosting issue?

Hi, actually I was going to e-mail you today because the problem has been happening for the last several days. Unless I add: ?p=123 to the permalink then I will get that error. It will work if I revert back to the default permalink setting, or if I add the ?p=123. I never know if I’ll get the error until I publish first then I have to go back and manually change the permalink. If you have any other suggestion I would appreciate it. Thank you again.

Do you have any caching plugins installed that might be interfering?

Hi, can you give me an example of what a “caching” plugin might be??

Can you send a list of the plugins you have listed in the Plugins screen of the WP dashboard?

Just click the “Plugins” Tab from the lefthand menu when logged into the backend as an administrator.

    thanks!

    Okay, please see listed:
Akismet, Broken Link Checker, Display Widgets, Genesis eNews Extended, Go Daddy Quick Setup, Google Analytics, Gravity Forms, Regenerate Thumbnails, Simple Share Buttons Adder, Simple Social Icons, Under Construction, Welcome to WordPress, WordPress Importer, WordPress SEO

Also, on when I try to post to Facebook, with my latest post, the photo and headline does not display, only the link: https://tinseltownmom.com/peaches-geldof-10-celebrity-moms-died-drug-overdose/ I’m not sure if this is related, but I thought I’d let you know. If I have to post a different question on another forum of this one let me know.

    Thanks for your help!
