I am trying to update to the latest version of The Events Calendar from a legacy site with a classic editor. In order not to break my site, I am doing it on a staging site here: https://www.hillstead.org/1676498327036/

I can edit the single event pages (like this: https://www.hillstead.org/1676498327036/event/the-art-of-shearing/) but when I try to view them, I get a 404 error. This defeats to purpose of trying all of this out on a staging site. I have gone over all of this with the staging site plugin support people and they think that it has to do with your plugin.

I have updated the plugin to the latest version. I have migrated my events. I have tried changing the permalink settings from plain to post but that doesn’t help.

I have asked this question before but did not get an answer that fixed it. This is a very old site but I really want to get this updated.

    Thanks

I have 2020 theme activated. I have deactivated all plugins except The Events Calendar and WP Staging. I added the code snippet and flushed the permalinks. I am still getting the 404 error. This is very frustrating.

    Hi @caffryfrankel

    Thanks for your response.

Could you try updating The Events Calendar to the latest version and revert the migration on your staging site by doing the following:

    1. Remove any un-needed draft events and empty the Trash.
    2. Install and activate the Code Snippets plugin.
    3. Add?this snippet?and run it once (be sure it does not stay activated).

After that, check if you still have the 404 errors. If the events are loading as expected, please go to Events > Settings > Upgrades and go through the migration process again, and check if that helps.

Let me know how it goes.

    Hi @caffryfrankel

I’m sorry to hear that you’re still having the 404 issue.

Could you try to edit the event, update the date/time, and click “Update” button and see if that helps?

Definitely not resolved. It’s just that nothing is working and suggests are circling back to things I have already tried.

I see that it has been some time since this thread was replied to. However, I had the same problem as described above – on staging site – and my solution was to change the staging URL to be the same as the original site, i.e., with https://www.domain …. in my case. I had my staging site URL without ‘www’. It appears that they have to match!
    Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for your help. How did you do this? Is it a premium feature? Unfortunately, I don’t have premium.

I use cPanel for hosting, which has the WordPress Manager by Softaculous. I used that to create the staging site – In that manager I can view edit the site settings before even launching WordPress – that’s where it shows the staging site URL box which I edited.
