404 Error when accessing file in WP root dir – HELP!

    Hi

    I’ve used a XML Sitemap Generator for WordPress to create a sitemap. This creates sitemap.xml in the root directory of my site, but when I try to access the XML file, or paste its URL into webmaster tools, I get a 404 file not found error and Google cannot find it.

    File is definitely there, and has 664 chmod permissions, and I am using the autodetected URL created by XML Sitemap Generator for WordPress.

    My WP site is installed into a directory of my hosting space, not the root – could this be a problem?

    Can anyone help?

    Any advice appreciated!
