404 Error when clicking next page in search results

  • Hi there – Occasionally we will get a 404 error when clicking the next page in search results. Clearing the cache and re-indexing the products fixes this issue, but could you please let us know what might be the cause of this so we can make sure to clear the cache and re-index when the 404 issue is triggered?

    Hi there – I think we have located the issue. We continued to have the 404 issue and it seems to relate to products that have been set to private and catalog visibility set to hidden.

    When caching is enabled there are gaps in the search results where the hidden product would normally be. When clicking the next page in the search results, it will then return a 404 error.

    If the products are trashed, the gaps will disappear and resolve the 404 errors after clearing the cache and rebuilding the index.
