404 Errors- Using SEO Ultimate

Does wordpress version 3.0.1 automatically fix and redirect 404’s or do I need to install a plugin for this? I currently use SEO Ultimat to monitor 404’s and have seen a couple on the monitor recently. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
