• My site is constantly creating 404 error pages on the fly. I am capturing all the pages that are generated and I can’t seem to find out where they are coming from. Here is an example.

/.minecraft-folder-c8f5e-with-mods-1.8.1 – this page was never created.

Can anyone help me out on how to stop this from happening. I have installed wordpress on a new VPS with a new theme and mimimal plugins. Contact Form 7 is probably the only plugin I have installed that could have caused this to happen.

  • What do you mean by “creating 404 error pages on the fly”? Are the pages actually being created and stored somewhere, or is that just a URL that someone/something has requested?

If it’s actually generating pages, that’s very strange because I haven’t seen anything that does that before. I’d definately be checking your site for hacks and malware.

If it’s only URL’s that are being requested, then I’d bet that it’s bots trying to probe your server/site for vunerbilities. As an example, the minecraft part of the URL that you’ve given points to bots looking for a known Minecraft vunerbility. If this is what’s happening it’s not doing anything to harm your site, and the only real way to stop it is to block the IP addresses that are making those requests.

then you should disable the plugin and check if it solves your issue
