404 not working after activating WPML & languages

  • Before translating a website with WPML, the 404 page worked fine. However now after activating WPML (& EN/DE languages) the 404 does not work anymore and displays the default WordPress 404.

    404page version: 11.3.0
    WPML version: 4.4.10 (latest version)
    Theme: GeneratePress
    Wordpress: v5.5.3
