• I am using WordPress locally. My home page works fine but I receive 404 errors for all other pages.

It is not a permalinks issue – I put it back to default and it didn’t change anything.

I think it must have something to do with set up but don’t know what. Can anyone help suggest things to try?

  • Hi,
1- Please provide me specific page url with 404 issue. I will check the format.

2- Share screenshot through https://droplr.com/ image at Admin > Settings > Permalinks.

    Thanks
    Mohammad

    Hi,
Step 1: Admin > Settings > Permalinks and select Default and save changes
Step 2: Go to Home page and refersh the home page and then open 404 page .

Muhammad Mumtaz; thank you. I had the same issue; looked everywhere.

Although the default link looks ugly, it works now.

    Hi,
    Great thanks to @mumtazkhan525.

There is another solution, I just read about that recently, but unfortunately I do not know any more where I’ve seen it.

The idea behind it: if on a local Apache server (maybe other servers too), the option to rewrite_module might be disabled.
Click on apache-modules, scroll down a quit long list till you see rewrite_module, and see if it is enabled. If not click on it.

After I did that, I could change my default for permalinks and all were rewritten.
