    Hello all.
    First of all the problem:
After upgrading a wordpress to 3.3.1 from a 3.1 the process finished and was happy as normal, but on loggin in, I get bounced to the 404 page. I can use the url of any other admin page in the address bar (wp-admin/edit.php, for example) and all’s well so it knows I am logged in, but using the dashboard link from the sidebar results in the same 404 kick.
The site runs as it should, but if a user logs in, they will hit the same wall of 404’s. To avoid these getting angry, I have returned it to the previous version and alls well again.

Next, about me and what I have tried:
I have been using wordpress since v1.something and have been doing the upgrades since on many sites which I help maintain, so i am used to the whole process of upgrading.

    I have tried:
renaming the plugin folder to force all plugins to fail/switch off
    reset the permalinks to standard
wiped the htaccess to blank and tried the above again
set the theme to the 2011 theme
reuploading using known good files from my computer (as used on other blogs to upgrade with, no issues on these blogs, on different servers)

Can anyone think of anything I have missed or is there a new bit of coding used that may cause issues with the server on the 3.3.1 upgrade, or server side controls/settings which may cause these issues/need tweaking as I am leaning towards this being the problem as this is the only constant I can see for this issue.

Hello all, turns out it was an issue with the server, and nothing I had done.
If you get similar, give your host a shout and they should get things sorted for you.
    All the best!

    THANKS!

I was having this problem and coudln’t find a solution. I hadn’t done anything besides upgrade my wordpress accounts – then, bam! 404 Error!

I looked everywhere for an answer and everyone kept talking about plugins and all sorts of other stuff. But everything was working fine before the update. So I knew that was the culprit.

AND I CONTACTED WORDPRESS A MILLION TIMES ON TWITTER AND THEY NEVER RESPONDED!!!

Finally came upon your post and I went to my GoDaddy account. It showed that I needed to upgrade my WordPress there too. So I did that last night.

This morning, everything worked! Thank you for your suggestion!
