• Hi,

I am having sudden trouble with a 404 error when trying to add a new file. It does not appear how I try to add it (browse or upload). I choose the file, fill out the other info then click add then I get a 404.

This has just started happening, is it maybe a problem with using WP 4.8?

    Any help is appreciated!

  • I am still not sure but what I think that you can update your permalinks again and try it. Also check that your path is fine with permissions.

No luck with the permalink re-set. Checking on permissions.

Permissions are 755. Even tried 777, no luck ??

    Any other ideas out there?

It might be mod_security blocking it, I know some users encounter it.

I spoke with the host and it is a shared server arrangement. They are saying it is unlikely.

I know, not much of an answer. However, without knowing to ask more specifically i really don’t know what else to do.

Is there any thing else I can check? Can someone maybe take a look at what is happening?

If you can get a fresh install of WP with just WP-DownloadManger, to see if it works in the first place.

    Sure, great idea.

Ok, so the I did as suggested and it appears to be working on the test WP site without issue. So there is something up with my site. Any suggested next steps?

That means we can conclude that it is not a hosting issue. How about on your site that has the problem, disable all other plugins to see if it works?

    Thread Starter williefunk2000

    (@williefunk2000)

doing that when I have a chance in the wee hours of the morning!

    (@williefunk2000)

ok, so disabling all of the other plugins does not fix the issue either. Still errors out to 404.

    Bummer, Next?

How about deactivate the plugin, delete the plugin. Reupload and activate the plugin again? I can’t really think of any more ideas.

Ok, I will try but is that going to screw up all of the files already there?

There are tons of them. I jest want to make sure!

    Thanks,

Hmm don’t delete from WordPress, but delete from your FTP so the data will be in tact.

Lester, I’m sorry but can you please be more specific?

I have ftp access to the site to you mean:

    /wp-content/plugins/wp-downloadmanager

get rid of this folder and contents? Then Re-install?

I do apologize. There are just a lot of files that cannot be compromised. I know they are still there mostly in:

    /wp-content/files

But is the download ability of any of them happens with trying to re-install… I’m in big trouble.

Thanks so much for your help!
    W
