• Right, I set my permalink to custon: /%postname%/

Now when I click on a link to a category I get a 404 error.

I can view single posts but not categories.

This happened around the time I installed a category visibility plugin which I have since deactivated.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

  • Try resetting your custom permalinks back to the default setting and deleting/renaming your WordPress .htaccess file. If that works, then review Using_Permalinks before setting a custom permalink structure back up again.

    Thanks.

Do you know where I can find the .htaccess file? I installed WordPress using the Fantastic Cpanel from Hostgator.

    Thanks.

It will be in the same folder as WordPress. Make sure that your FTP client of file management application is configured to view all files as the .htaccess file is often hidden by default.

    Thanks.

    Renamed my .htaccess file.

I have set permalinks back to default.

I click the links to my categories they all work.

Now I set permalinks to Custome Structure: /%postname%/

Now when I click on the links to my categories, only some of them work and some of them get the error “Error 404 – Not Found” in the theme:

    Thanks!
