• Hi all,

I’m running 7 WP 3.9 sites with one host, each having their own cPanel account.

At random times I get 404’s on all pages, except the home page, for every WP site.

If I log into the admin and re-create permalinks, the pages spring back into action. If I don’t re-create the permalinks, they will start working on their own accord, sometimes a few minutes after they stop working, or sometimes several hours later. (according to my http monitor)

The 404 page that is served is the one from LiteSpeed, not my theme’s 404 page.

This is what i’ve now done on all sites but I continue to have issues:

    – deleted and manually reinstalled WordPress on all sites
    – deleted and manually reinstalled all plugins
    – temporarily disabled all plugins on two sites and the problem still occured on those sites
    – deleted and recreated .htaccess files on all sites and checked permissions
    – ran a repair and optimise on all SQL databases

I only use a handful of very well established and maintained plugins on each of the sites (Yoast SEO, Advanced Custom Fields, WordPress HTTPS), and given that I continue to get these problems when they’re disabled, I feel I can safely rule out any of them being the cause.

I’ve been with this host for 3 years, as have all 7 of my sites, but this issue has only been happening for the past couple of months. My host is insisting it’s an issue caused by a plugin or WP itself!

I’m hoping someone can give me some idea of what else I can check, and perhaps what I can ask my host to check.

    Many thanks
    Darren

This sounds like a server issue. Have you contacted your hosts about it?

Yes, they’re insisting it’s not an issue on the server, but could be caused by a plugin. They say that no other customers on my server have the problem, and their error logs don’t report anything.

I find it hard to believe it’s not their problem given that this issue happens on all my sites.

The problem is that it’s so random. I have no idea when it’s going to happen, but when it does, I check the .htaccess file and it looks fine with no corruption. As soon as I save it (via ftp or WordPress) the pages come back to life.
