    Ok,

I want to change the color of the mouseover on the menu.

When I go to Appearance — Editor — style.css and I try to update the file I get an error message: 406 Not Acceptable

Even when I don’t modify the file and click update, I still get that message.

    Any clues?

  • Hi,

Does this happen to you on localhost too? If it is not happening there then this may be an issue with the hosting provider. Ask your host if they have mod_security enabled and if it’s possible to disable it on a per-directory basis. They may have it set to where you can’t turn it off.

    Hm.
To check if it happens on my localhost I would have to start a server on my pc and install WP on it?
    Thanks for the reply.

Yes, you would need to start a server(like WAMP) on your pc .
What’s the result? Did you figure it out?

Were you able to get this resolved?

    Hi,
I was not able to resolve the issue.

I know how to modify the style.css file, which would solve the mouse-over color issue.

When I update it, I get the 406 Not Acceptable error. This is the problem.

Edit your style.css from the command line, or download via FTP, edit locally, and push back via FTP.

    Hi,

Were you able to get through this? Could you please let us know if you are still looking for help?

Try switching to the default theme and see if you’re still seeing the same issue. It could be theme-specific.

Check with your hosting provider if any accept headers are enabled. This error usually occurs because of the defective programming of systems or of the Web server which manages the site. Rarely some web browsers also cause this error. You may check that too.

Sorry for the delay, was really busy.
Thanks for the help guys. It worked when the hosting providers turned the mod_security off.

It takes a lot of work to get mod_security and WordPress to play nicely together. Many hosts don’t quite get that. <sad face>

Thats awesome ! So glad that your issue has been resolved.
