• Hello Mike,

After installing and setting up the contact page, I noticed it wasn’t redirecting back to the homepage. So, I referenced this forum and read where you mentioned to but the full URL in it’s place. So I did by entering: https://www.geoffsnyder.com — after doing so, I tested it and notice it took it right back to the Contact page again. So, I decided to deactive the plugin, remove the page, and start over. Now, I cannot access my homepage but can access all other links (as far as I know) with no problems. My question is: How do I fix the problem so readers can access my home page (root URL…as listed as above) and then in hoped be able to successfully use your plugin?

    Best regards,
    Geoff

  • This plugin has no code to redirect like that. It only has a snippet of javascript that can redirect AFTER the form is posted if redirect is enabled.

There must be a problem with your WP install/setup to redirect like that.

Look at this WP setting: Settings – Reading – Front page displays:
It should be set to “Your latest posts”

    Maybe another plugin is conflicting.
    Do this as a test:
Temporarily disable all your other plugins.
Does it work now? If yes, enable the plugins one by one to determine
which one conflicts. Which plugin was causing it?

If none of that works it may be a permalink problem, you can ask for help in the “How-To and Troubleshooting” forum

    Hey Mike,

    Maybe there is a misunderstandng…

In the default set up, this plugin has an option to redirect…the one in which is: index.php

I activated the plugin and set up the form, tested it…and everything worked fine. I then enabled the redirect option within the plugin settings, tested it and found that after the form was submitted, it simply redirected back to the same page…the contact page. Next, I read through this forum for input and possible correction, hence the reference to the “…this forum and read where you mentioned to but the full URL in it’s place. So I did by entering: https://www.geoffsnyder.com — ” from above. After in which I noticed it did the same thing, which is why I deactived and uninstalled the plugin. I’ve reinstalled it and tried again…same thing.

I double checked the Front Page displays settings and that is set to: “Your latest posts”. I have also disabled each plugin…this did not correct the problem. I have read through the permalink forum and will try to find something there…if it exists.

I guess my thought that the problem has to do with this plugin only because there wasn’t an issue until after I installed and set it up.

Thank you again for your time and for any further insight.

    Best regards,
    Geoff

Make sure you put the shortcode in a Page, and not a Post

    See example:

I have double and triple checked this…the short code is in fact located within the Page and not a Post.

It is a brand new blog install?
Maybe it is because there are no posts. Make some tests posts.
    Did that work?
What do see on the front page of your site if you deactivate the plugin?

The blog has been online since last October. Since installing the plugin, I am no longer able to get to the front page…which is the root of the domain. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, activated, and deactivated (and several other sequences thereof).

I’ve been reading extensively for the past 40 hours about the front page, htaccess, the loop, and permalinks. Nothing seem to line up to this problem specifically, but then again, I am not fluent in PHP and am unfamiliar with what I am looking at/for but I am technologically savvy.

Again, I cannot access the front page, which has always been: https://www.geoffsnyder.com It keeps redirecting me to https://www.geoffsnyder.com/contact/ and if I remove that page, it still takes me there but of course then giving me a 404

I can access all posts specifically…and even pages such as /page/2 /page/3 etc…

Sorry you are having trouble. Wish I was able to help more.
Like I said before… This plugin has no code to redirect like that and you are the first to alert me of this problem. I think it is a General WP problem, possibly with .htaccess redirects or permalinks. You might try changing the permalinks setting differently and then back to what you had in an attempt to reset them.

I am running out of ideas, maybe you can get help from the “How to and Troubleshooting” section of this support forum. I did note quite a few threads there about WP 3.0 and problems with redirects, front page displaying the wrong thing, etc..

For anybody who might find this information valuable….
A plugin called “Redirect” was the cause.
    See here:

Umm. I don’t think it’s fair to completely blame it on the Redirect plug-in.

My wife’s site ran into this problem after installing the SI Contact Form plug-in. She happened to have Redirect installed and everything was working fine. After installing SI Contact form, inexplicably the contact form became the home page. Even disabling SI Contact Form wouldn’t bring the homepage back.

Redirect is doing weird things. But this plug-in is enabling these wired things, even though I understand it’s not your fault.

Please at least put a note up front that this could happen so I don’t have to spend my Friday night fixing this mess for my wife and that she’s not losing business because of it.

This is a great plug-in, but this conflict is a BAD problem.

    Thanks.

Thanks for posting the problem Mike. That was the issue.. a conflict between the two plugins.. hopefully it can be addressed soon by you and/or them.

Actually, I just saw that the problem is NOT at all with Mike’s Fast & Secure Contact Form plugin. The redirect plugin is the culprit. It just did the same thing to my plain old “Privacy Policy” page as well.

Sorry Mike! Thanks again for a nice plugin. Donation on it’s way.
