• I was having too much issues with the yoast sitemap so disabled it and have use the XML sitemap & Google newsfeed plug in for the last couple of years because it is simple, effective and so far trouble free.
(I dont use the newsfeed, just the sitemap)

Just updated to 4.3 retested my sitemap with the Google webmaster console & got the HTML error message.
Checked the view sitemap link on the plug in settings page and got a 404 message????
Took a look at a couple of my other sites and found the html error on a few as well (no more 404s thankfully), I thought “oh no more W3 Total Cache conflicts & time wasting messing about rewriting stuff”

Before going down that route I removed the XML sitemap & Google newsfeed plug in from each site and reinstalled it, once again all is well, running smoothly & Google loves me again!

I don’t know if this is beause the updates kept old data now missing from a new clean install, but I would reccommend this step for anyone with 4.3 issues before fiddling with anything else.

  • Hi mekatrig, thanks for reporting. I have found that sometimes (I don’t know for what reason) the permalinks break. Usually it will be enough to visit your Settings > Permalinks page and re-save the settings there without changing them. This will clear the old (partly broken) settings from the database and rebuild them from scratch. With W3TC or Supercache you might need to clear all caches after that to make it all work immediately.

But removing and installing the XML Sitemap & Google News feeds plugin has the same effect on permalink settings so that is probably why that solved the errors for you. Or are there any remaining errors?

Can you provide some more information so I can get more understanding about when/how these plugin permalink settings might break? If so, please tell me:
    1. Which caching modules in W3TC do you have activated?
    2. Are your sites single WordPress installations or are they running on the same Multisite install?
    3. And if on multisite: are you using a Domain Mapping plugin?

    Thanks ??

PS, thanks for your 5 star Review!
