• Every single plugin update on the 5 sites that are running 4.4 have this issue.

Invariably, I have to delete the plugin and reinstall it again.

I switched back to the new Twenty Sixteen theme to see if it was something in themes I do use. There was no improvement. I am left to wonder where to go or what to try next.

I’ve been running websites for over a dozen years, so I feel I have trouble-shot where I could. I even changed permissions in places.

I have to think it’s this new version to 4.4. Never had a consistent problem like this before.

    Thanks for any help.

    It’s a known issue: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/read-this-first-wordpress-44-master-list?replies=6&view=all#post-7760865

As of yet we have found no rhyme or reason for that to happen, but would you please provide as MUCH detail about your server as possible (OS, PHP version and flavor, etc) at https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/ticket/34976 ?

For now, you can “update” plugins and themes by deleting and installing the latest version.

One thing: Installing a new plugin is NO problems, it’s only the updates.

    1 TB Dedicated server

    Linux
    PHP 5.4.24
    Apache Version 2.2.26
    MySQL Version 5.5.46-cll

Thanks. At least it’s not me trying to figure it out. LOL

Have sent the above information to the link you provided for tickets.

Same problem here. I just installed and successfully built a site on 4.4 on another server and had no problems. Tonight I am running into this “unable to create directory” issue on a different server. Both servers are running the same version of Linux, but different versions of PHP:
WP 4.4 Working: PHP Version 5.3.29
WP 4.4 NOT Working: PHP Version 5.6.15

Hope to get this resolved soon.

Quick update: I removed the 4.4 install, installed 4.3, then upgraded to 4.4 and everything works fine now.

    How do you uninstall it?

I deleted all the files and the db tables. It was a new site, so no customizations to lose starting over. May not be your case.

Looks like this will be fixed in 4.4.1 (no exact ETA on that yet).

I was afraid you’d say that. No, I can’t afford to lose what I have. My archive is almost 4 years old and that’s with a daily entry. Thanks.

But good news, I see, is coming.
