• My WP site was automatically updated to 4.4.1. Since then, I’m not able to login at all. I get a blank screen. I contacted the ISP and they said there was no problem on their end. I saw in other support topics that the ISP should change mod_security rules. I called them and referred them to those topics. They tried doing this and it still made no difference. Right after I hung up with them I received an email from Google saying that our site may have been hacked with malicious content. Called ISP back and they found none and have basically been no help. I have other WP websites through other providers and have had no problems. I still can’t log in to my WP dashboard. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I’m very sorry to hear you are experiencing issues.

Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

Once you get your site working again – and to be on the safe side after receiving that notice from Google – I would carefully follow this guide. When you’re done, you may want to implement some (if not all) of the recommended security measures.

Let us know if you have any questions about anything mentioned above. Good luck!

I have 4 WP sites and three of them were automatically updated to version 4.4.1-NL . They went offline… Now I updated manually the fourth site with the same effect: also offline. I contacted my ISP and after several tests, we both think that it has something to do with the update. Even standard themes from WP won’t load anymore. Can somebody help me please.

I tried to update to 4.4.1 at various times yesterday and today (2/1/2016 and 2/2/2016) and got the same problem as Annie and bodesign (error screen appears in place of the login screen after update). I tried the manual update and had the same issue. Luckily, I had a backup and re-loaded 4.3.2. It’s not an emergency. I just wanted to throw my hat in the ring of having the same problem.

I’m sorry to hear you are both having the same issue. If you have searched the forums and have not found a solution, please start your own thread so volunteers can focus their efforts on one problem per thread. The reasoning behind this is that everyone will have a slightly different configuration and you (and those reading in the future) won’t have to sort through suggestions that do not apply to you.
