Hi! When I updated my site to WP 5.1, the back-end editor broke:

    – On the Visual tab, it appears to be blank, but is actual white HTML on a white background. There is no visual preview.

    – On the Text tab… well, I am unable to switch to it. Clicking it doesn’t do anything.

Here’s my site under WP 5.1 (I’ve highlighted some text in the editor):
    https://tinypic.com/r/2elxto3/9

Here it is under WP 5.0.3:
    https://tinypic.com/r/2v2jpud/9

I disabled all plugins and still had the same issue. And yes, they’re all up to date as well. I made a duplicate of the site and the only difference was the 5.1 update.

    Can you advise? Thanks!

Well, it may not have anything to do with the Phlox theme as I switched to WP’s own Twenty Nineteen them and have the same issue (with all plugins off). Hmm.

I will resubmit this as a possible bug, or at least something unrelated to the choice of theme.

I did find the solution. Turned out it was a “feature” of the web hosting company that was causing the problem! It’s some sort of tracking feature, I guess to do some web analytics, which injects a so-called “Pixel-code” into the site. It turned out there was a place in their hosting control panel to turn this off, and once I did, WP worked perfectly with 5.1.1.

here’s a screen shot of the setting to change.

This (rather kludgy and dated) interface is used by Telus Hosting and Earthlink, and likely others too.
