5 fonts are loaded

    Hello,

    I was excited to see the changelog a few months ago about putting it all into one request. However, when I do a simply Chrome Inspect I see there are 4 fonts loaded already.
    In fact it seems 3 times the same font is loaded (webandbrand.woff2) and then once more an icon (icons-close.woff2)

    Is this really necessary? I am sure this can be limited to one; and would it not be better to change that icon to one sprite image or allow the load of a font thats already present (usually fontawesome)

    Hi @sanderrrrr,

    It is the sidebar (the widget on the side of the screen) that is loaded in one request. When you move your mouse on the page, the widgets that are shown when you mouse over the sidebar are preloaded. This should cause 3 additional requests.

    Your site most likely has separate widgets as well, that are loading the font two additional times. If you share the URL to your site, I could verify that.

    I don’t believe icons-close.woff2 is part of our system. Can you give me the full URL to the icon that you see in Chrome DevTools?

    Do you have caching disabled in DevTools? Because the other font webandbrand.woff2 should be cached and thus really only loaded once.

    It is true that this font could be replaced by inline SVGs and that would be better, but I don’t believe this is a high priority for WebwinkelKeur at the moment.

    Hello Albert,

    thanks for the follow-up and looking into this.
    On our website we also have the footer acivated; and you are correct that on that specific page there is another showcase of the reviews-bar.

    I checked on a different page with the sidebar + footer and I am seeing 3 times the webandbrand.woff2 loaded. On the test side you provided it also loads twice.

    I believe the icon-close.woff2 is from a different plugin, my apologies.

    I’ve checked with Chrome (I used Firefox before) and indeed the font shows up multiple times:

    But, as you can tell, only the first load is in black font. The others are greyed out and marked with (memory cache) or (disk cache) in the size column– meaning they are loaded from RAM (and not downloaded again). So this doesn’t actually cause additional requests.

    I’ll look into how much work it is to get rid of the webandbrand.woff2 download entirely, because it is a good suggestion.

    Hi @sanderrrrr,

    We’ve removed the additional request to webandbrand.woff2 now. ?? The sidebar should now trigger only 1 request on initial load, and 2 additional requests to preload the tooltips when you move your mouse.

    Hello Albert,

    during a recent GTmetrix speed test it seems that the sidebar is still causing some issues. It has a 5.41 seconds (!) loading time, while blocking some other resources.
    Is there something we can do about this?
