• Hello,

I wrote a previous post which did not specify my exact issue. I originally downloaded WordPress from WordPress.com, I decided to switch over to WordPress 2.5.1 to use the special features etc. When I installed WordPress last I had my domain mapped through WordPress so I could use the domain I had setup for the blog..

    My issue??

I talked with a consultant here and the person advised me to undo the domain mapping and change my nameservers back to those provided by Bluehost my web host.

Just a few hours ago I downloaded the 2.5.1 with the “5 Minute Install” from the Documentation site. What I did not understand was if I should have removed all the first WordPress files from my root folder? When I completed the 5 Minute Install I downloaded all the new files and folders to my root folder, and replaced the old “themes, content, etc” folders and files that were previously there…I’m not sure if this was a good idea.

After I completed uploading all the files to my FTP, I then exported my WordPress log file containing all my posts, comments, pages, etc. The only problem after doing so was after visiting my site (www.blogstodiefor.com) my site does not have any of my content on it.

I’m wondering where my error was made, or if this is something rather small to correct?

When I access my dashboard, all my posts, pages, categories are there just like before I installed the 2.5.1, but nothing is visible when you visit my website.

If someone could please help me out that would be great.

    Thank You!

I just tried to visit my site https://www.blogstodiefor.com

and the install appeared where I enter my Blog title and email address.

I will begin the install now

    Ok the install is complete….

Should I now import my saved wordpress xml file?

Well that means you didn’t quite follow directions but who’s to argue.

Now just do Manage->Import->WordPress using your XML file from wordpress.COM.

    Good Luck.

Ok my site is up and running again. THANK YOU!

One little issue, I was trying to edit the widgets in both my sidebars, my left sidebar still contains widgets that somehow in the dashboard I can neither edit nor delete. Also the pages I have created are not being shown, only the default Front Page, Archives, About..

Any way to fix this issue?

    Update your permalink structure.

That theme you are using has an update recently so make sure you get that.

I’m having an all together new problem. I went to login to my wordpress this morning but I forgot the password that the install gave me for the username “admin”. So I checked my email and sure enough the password was sent to me when I completed the installation. The login screen said the password is incorrect. I tried to reset the admin password but it says that you cannot do that.

I tried to have the password emailed to my email address but the only password that was provided was the password for my old login username.
When I login with my old username, the login works but I

brought to my old dashboard which is visibly not the web-hosted version. All my posts and blog content is there but it is not the web-hosted edition.

I just saw another post on here about downloading the “emergency.php” script. I just completed the install and reset the password.

I tried logging in with the admin username and new password and still I cannot log in. I’m wondering how I’m able to sign-in using my old username and password and access the free wordpress edition instead of the web-hosted version I installed yesterday.

I’m wondering if I should use the option in the dashboard to “delete the blog” and then start the 5 Minute Installation all over again??
