I’m getting 500 errors when I try to post a super long post. I’ve never had them before and I’ve had wordpress installed for about 2 months.

I’ve been looking and some people have fixed it with .htaccess. I can’t use that because the server I’m using is a windows server and not linux.

any ideas on how to fix it?

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress?

    increasing your available memory?

I did all of those except resetting the plugin folder. I may not have understood the link you sent me but I do have access to the admin area.

I’m checking now but I’m pretty sure the php.ini is set pretty high. My site is on a vps.

What I don’t get is that if i get a long lorem ipsum with 900 words, it’s fine but if I copy and paste a tutorial i wrote a while ago , it won’t work. I took out all the pictures and links and it only has 600 words.

Maybe if I type out from scratch and see, it’s really bizarre.

Are you pasting in from a plain text editor or from an application such as Word? Don’t paste content from Microsoft Word into WordPress as the pasted text will also contain Word’s own formatting. Sooner or later, this formatting will stop your pages from being displayed correctly (if at all) in Internet Explorer. If you cannot possibly manage without Word, paste your text into NotePad (or another text editor) first, then copy from NotePad into WordPress.

ok so it was set to 16mb, we uped it to 64 and nothing. It still the same.

I retyped the whole thing and nada. It’s still doing it. I really don’t get it.

    Try resetting the plugins folder.

my host fixed it. They said it was a problem with the mod_security and whitelisted the rules. It’s working now.
