500 error on SMTP setup

    I’ve been trying unsuccessfully to set up a contact form on my wordpress site.

    All of the mail server details are correct – copied and pasted directly from the webhosts configuration. The username is correct. The password is correct. The SMTP server is correct. The port is correct. Have double and triple checked these.

    I go through the setup wizard, it gets to the end of the process and goes through the mailer configuration checker wizard, then gives a 500 error at the end of the process. Nothing I have tried has worked and I’ve not found anything useful on the web either
