After cloning the production site to a localhost dev site and forgetting to set that dev site with the staging flag, I got a notice that production Jetpack wanted to be put in safe mode. In order to avoid safe mode, I deactivated and reactivated Jetpack to avoid this. Jetpack now wanted to set everything up again. I even uninstalled and reinstalled Jetpack but no progress.

When I click on the black “Set up Jetpack” button, it returns an error below that says “An error occurred. Please try again.”

The website is installed in a subdirectory.

    The console returns two errors:

    1)
    500 error at […]/wp-json/jetpack/v4/connection/register

    2)
Uncaught (in promise) ApiError: Unable to insert blog. Please try again or contact support. (Status 500)

Why is Jetpack not able to re-activate? What can I do to get this error fixed asap? Thanks.

    Hi @micasuh

When WordPress is installed in a subdirectory we need to specify that so that Jetpack knows where to find the xmlrpc.php file.

It looks like that has been updated as we now show the Site URL (Where Jetpack looks for WordPress) at https://yourdomain.com/wp

You’ll also want to make sure you’re using Jetpack 11.5.1, as this contains a fix for an issue that was found in 11.5.

    @bruceallen thanks for the reply!

I am using Jetpack 11.5.1 to attempt the Jetpack set up when I’m getting the errors.

What else should I be doing to fix this?

@bruceallen I am not having success activating Jetpack. Is anything else I can try to get this activated? Thanks for your support.

    Hey @micasuh,

On our end, it looks like you’re still running Jetpack 11.5, not Jetpack 11.5.1. Can you double-check either in your Dashboard > Updates page in WP Admin, or on the Plugins page itself to see if you successfully updated to 11.5.1?

Also – it looks like your WordPress install is in a subfolder (/wp/) so I’ve updated the URLs in our system. Now, can you try reconnecting Jetpack again now?

Hi @jenhooks, thanks for the reply.

I am not sure why you are seeing 11.5 on your end, it’s definitely the updated 11.5.1.

You are correct that /wp/ is the subfolder, and you update on your system fixed our issue.

Is it possible to know why this became an issue? This is a long existed domain using the subdirectory of /wp/ and it was previously using Jetpack successfully before the issue showed itself.
