• We use siteground to host our WordPress website. It is impossible to get to the site currently due to a 500 internal error. I don’t know if it is related, but this happened right after WordPress sent a notice that it had completed scheduled server maintenance. I did check the cPanel error log and found nothing. Any suggestions? Thank you!

  • It looks like the error is from Siteground’s server itself before the server hands off to WordPress even.

    Contact Siteground support…

Let us know if they say the problem is with WordPress but I’d probably wait a couple hours if they said that then call them back hoping to get a different support tech and maybe a better answer or an escalation to second level support there.

It’s not that the first support person is being rude or doesn’t know… getting the right answers from support people often requires a bit of ‘human engineering’, wheedling, rephrasing, or asking several people. Sometimes it’s the timing!

Hristo from SG here, checked your site and figured it hit a known cPanel bug. Took the liberty to fix it for you and to make sure it won’t happen again. The advice above is right, if you have such errors, first check the cPanel -> Error Log and if there’s no straight forward answer – contact our Help Desk. That particular issue is solved in Site Tools and can’t occur there.
