The plugin has been functioning flawlessly since our site launched back in March. However, as of yesterday the home page that uses the FTS shortcodes consistently creates a 500 Internal Server Error unless the plugin is deactivated.

Any thoughts as to what may be going on? We hope this can be resolved as we are seeing a large discussion across social media due to a company campaign that started just yesterday.

Thank you in advance for any support you can provide.

    Tim,

Thanks for contacting us and using the plugin! Hopefully we can figure out the issue here. Let’s check a few things.

    1. Do you have App tokens or keys filled out for each of your feeds? If you could submit the report from the System Info page of our plugin that would be very helpful.
    2. Possibly you need to increase the memory for the server or the wordpress site. With each wordpress update or other plugins updates sometimes you may be reaching the server’s memory limit which in turn will slow the server load time and timeout depending on the timeout amount your server has set. Usually this is in your php.ini file if you have one accessible.

Thanks for the info. I see you have Display Erros: On. What are your php logs saying are the cause of the error?

Where might I go to review php logs in regards to the cause for the error?

    Plugin Author slickremix

    (@slickremix)

Usually you will see a error_log file on your server’s root, where you have the wp-content folder and wp-admin folder and other files.

I don’t see any folders or files with error in the title when I login via FTP and browse. I will contact the hosting provider and ask for a transcript of the error log and get back to you. Thanks so much!

There appears to be an error with another plugin (https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/simplemap/) but even when I deactivate the problem plugin we still intermittently receive the 500 error.

    (@slickremix)

Very strange no errors with our plugin. How many feeds do you have running on the page that is timing out? Do you have an example link?

    Thread Starter Tim Derouin

    (@tderouindesign)

There are three but they have been deactivated for the time being since the site needs to be visible and it is the home page that this error is effecting so the entire site is inaccessible (unless you already have a sub page URL).

Unfortunately, the locator map is a big deal and we need it on the home page. I have posted a question specific to the map plugin so I will see where we get. The site can be seen here: https://www.plantsomethingma.org/

For the time being, I have replaced the social feeds with social share icons instead.

Is it possible you could allow one or 2 of the shortcodes to run so you can pinpoint the feed that is causing the troubles?

    Spencer

    (@tderouindesign)

It is possible and an excellent idea. Thanks!

I will be in touch when I have something to report.

    (@tderouindesign)

    Okay, my troubleshooting revealed this…

Facebook and Instagram both bring up the 500 internal server error. However, if only the Twitter feed is on the page it loads just fine. I did try the Facebook feed by itself as well as the Instagram feed by itself but the error still happened unless Twitter was the only feed on the page.

    (@slickremix)

Alright that is progress, good deal.

When was the last time you created a new app token for your facebook feed? If it’s been a while I would suggest getting a new one. That might be the issue.

Also try going to the Instgram Options page and delete the instagram app token and save the page then generate a new one. Empty the cache each time and try the feed again.

The app tokens would have all been made in February of this year so not too long ago. I will try what you have noted and get back to you. Probably first thing tomorrow morning as I have something I need to jump in to at the moment.

Thank you for all of your help so far!

    Thread Starter Tim Derouin

    (@tderouindesign)

I deleted the Facebook app and created a new one, generated a new access token and the feed began working along side the Twitter feed (which was the one that was working with no problem.)

However, once I replaced the Instagram Access Token it was back to square one. Now the only feed that works is Twitter again.

Perhaps it is the Instagram feed that is the potential problem but since it affected the working Facebook feed, maybe it is still both.

    Thoughts?

Thank you so much for your assistance!
