I received a 500 internal server error after installing and activating this plugin that disabled me from accessing my site and the dashboard. I had to FTP into the server and manually delete the plugin folder. This has allowed me to access the dashboard once again, but the main site is still down, even after clearing the cache.

I’ve checked the active plugins in the database through phpMyAdmin and there is no sign of the smush.it plugin. Thinking that this may have been caused by some leftover files outside of the plugin directory, I reinstalled the plugin through FTP and activated it on my dashboard. I then immediately deactivated and removed it through the dashboard. Still no luck — I’m still getting a 500 internal server error for my website.

  • Hi @tech-otaku,

Greetings and thanks or posting here! Hmm, are you saying you received a 500 error right after activating the plugin?

Or did the error occur upon uploading image files?

In case it helps, Yahoo’s been having intermittent service as reported here with some possible workarounds or the moment:

On the other hand, if you’re seeing 500 errors just from activating the plugin, I’d love to get that sorted.

If it’s just from activating the plugin, could you please enable debugging as detailed here then let us know if anything turns up in your error logs?

Looking forward to sorting that with ya! ??

    Thanks,
    David
