I have a custom user role similar to the “editor” role, but allows a few extra options short of being a full administrator.

When these user roles login to the dashboard, they can see the dashboard, but as soon as they click on “posts” or “pages” or anything else, they receive a 500 internal server error.

I have verified this is not an issue for full admins or the regular roles such as editor. Disabling W3TC allows this custom role to go about their business with no problems.

  • There is a caching and minification option for logged in users. Have you tried enabling that to see if that affects it?

If it does then I recommend not using this plugin until the issue is resolved.

The problem was at the host level, with a caching feature that was turned on by the previous webmaster using a static HTML site. Turned that off and we’re good now. Thanks for the reply, as it steered me in the right direction of what to look for… this wasn’t a host I was familiar with and I was surprised to see that option, let alone the feature turned on!
