500 Internal Service Error on 1 and 1

  • I just installed WP for the first time on a 1&1 hosted account (not my call) and my host told me to add the line ‘AddHandler x-mapp-php5 .php’ to my .htaccess file because before that I was getting nothing but 500 errors. Now I get my site and my admin but adding or editing a page (haven’t tried a post yet) and saving it just brings back the 500 error all over again. I hear 1&1 is notorious for not handling WP very well. So does anyone know of a solution that works best on 1&1?

  • The instructions in WP Codex say the correct syntax to add for 1 & 1 is

    AddType x-mapp-php5 .php

    Try that
