Just did an update on a site which hadn’t been touched in a little while. Most of the updates went fine, except along the way I lost the ability to install new plugins. I’ve already tried switching themes and deactivating plugins, so that’s not it. I can install new THEMES as well, but I cannot install (via uploading a .zip) new plugins.

    Anyone else have this issue?

Please check the error logs on your server for a more specific error message and see why it’s failing. If you need help locating them, ask your hosting provider to help you with that.

Still waiting on error logs, but in the meantime I can also add that I’m able to UPDATE existing installed plugins, but cannot add new ones.

Have you discussed with your hosting provider why is that — you can UPDATE existing installed plugins, but cannot add new ones?

This is not the default behavior of WP core.

The initial instructions from the hosting provider were that a) there are no error logs specifically in this windows environment and b) to change the web config. Their directions gave me a lead in the right direction.

After a few permutations of web config settings, I was able to get an error message that was helpful:

Unable to create directory wp-content/uploads/2015/10. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

That in turn lead me to the fix – for whatever reason, the wp-content/uploads directory was locked down as readable but not writable. No clue how that happened, but it did. Seems to all be fixed now = phew!

    glad to know it ??

Hello! I’m having the SAME error when I’m trying to upload images. And I just purchased a ProPhoto blogsite & trying to upload the zip file to the new theme like the video showed me I was suppose to do & it’s giving me this error message. **** Unable to create directory uploads/2015/10. Is its parent directory writable by the server?****

So in reading…you say go to wp-content/uploads directory……but I don’t know where that is to try & fix it! PLEASE HELP! Thank you!
