Although it’s a “500” HTTP error (which suggests more of resource or similar issues) I’ve seen it happening with certain additional plugins on site blocking such requests.
Do you by any chance use a plugin such as JWT Auth (or similar plugin related to authentication of JSON/REST API requests) on site?
If yes, please temporarily disable it and and see if the issue is gone. If so, let us know what plugin is it and we’ll look closer to it.
If you are not using such plugin, do you have any additional firewall-type plugin or firewall active on site? If yes, please look into its logs to see if there are any entries related to these requests and if there are – what do they state.
Let us know here and based on this we’ll see what to do next to get this fixed.
