    After creating backups of database and files, when I try to individually download any of the separate zip file components in Backups, logs & restoring: (database, themes, plugins, etc), I get this error:

    502 Bad Gateway
    The server returned an invalid or incomplete response.

    I have received this error now on two client sites. Both are on two different versions of WP. Both use a custom child theme of Responsive Theme.

    I should also point out I had previously installed WordPressBackUp on both sites. I deactivated and deleted that plugin before installing UpdraftPlus and making my first backups. Could there be conflict there, or is there something I’m missing? I haven’t done any remote backups, just locally on the server.

    My apologies, I should have read this more clearly. I didn’t realize the individual zip downloads were from the remote storage, not from the local server, which you recommend against backing up to exclusively.

    I’ve located them locally and will test remote storage.

    Whatever remote storage is used, it’s normally still possible to do direct download from the UD settings page – UD retrieves the download in the background from cloud storage, and then spools it to the user. When that doesn’t work, directly visiting the cloud vendor’s website is a work-around.

    The particular message indicates that there’s a proxy server somewhere between your webserver and your desktop, and the proxy server doesn’t like to spool the file for some reason. There’s not much that can be done from either your end or mine – the only people who could take a look would be whoever operates the proxy (likely to be either your ISP, or your web hosting company).

    I looked up the code and see it’s server-related now, thanks for pointing that out, too. I’m with NameCheap, I’ll have to contact them and see if they’re the hold-up.
