503 error – godaddy hosting

    I have a WordPress blog hosted by GoDaddy (shared Linux hosting) and for about a day now whenever I have tried to view any part of the blog (the home page, individual posts, even my dashboard) the page frequently fails to load, instead you see the following message:

    Service Temporarily Unavailable
    The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.
    Apache/1.3.33 Server at https://www.seattlesoundmag.com Port 80

    I talked to GoDaddy and they claim that this is because my site is too popular – the maximum numbers of simultaneous connections allowed to the site is 50, with our current plan.

    Please direct me elsewhere if there is a better forum in which to ask this question, but is there anything I could have done on my end (by modifying my custom WordPress theme, installing plugins, or doing something else) to dramatically increase the number of connections being used on my site?

    I recently activated (and then deactivated) the WordTwit plugin (automatically makes a tweet on your twitter whenever you post). I also had set up FeedBurner feeds for the blog as a whole and for several different category feeds – but deactivated those before I had any subscribers to them on the off chance they were contributing to this problem.

    Anyone have any clue if I have contributed to this problem? Or is this simply a matter of having cheap, crappy web hosting? The only reason I’m reluctant to buy GoDaddy’s explanation (too many users) is that this has never happened before, and there’s been no reason I’ve been aware of that traffic on our site would have increased substantially.

    that isn’t much – you could have that many on a small site and you visiting it regularly just to post or do maintenance.

    you probably need to upgrade to a better plan
    or – a workaround

    go to where you administer the db section at godaddy
    create like 3 users with all privileges and associate them to your database
    now – when you get that error – download and edit wp-config.php to replace current user with newly created user (also new password if you didn’t use the same for all)
    save – upload
    site is only down for a few minutes instead of an hour or more

    Does this involve using phpmydamin or do I do this somewhere else on the godaddy site?

    So…ending up resolving this problem by deleting the most recent post. Don’t really know what cause this, but our intern tried to upload some photos to the post (maybe caused something to go wrong with our Post Image plugin?) and this set everything haywire. After deleting this post, everything works as normal. I am still clueless as to what went wrong, but glad that it is resolved.
