    Hi all,

5.3.8 has been released. This is a point release to fix the issue that users with older versions of WordPress experienced.

We released 5.3.7 last night and you can read about the changes on this post:

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/wordfence-537-released?replies=11

As you can see from the replies we had quit a few reports of users running WordPress versions older than 3.9 who do not have the wp_normalize_path() function and the 5.3.7 release caused problems for them.

So we just released 5.3.8 which contains a check to see if you do actually support the wp_normalize_path() function before we use it. That should fix any issues that customers with older versions of WordPress experienced.

Having said that, and being a security company we STRONGLY recommend that you upgrade to the newest version of WordPress which at the time of this writing is 4.1.1. It contains many security fixes and it becomes difficult for us to secure your site if you are running a vulnerable version of WordPress.

But we understand that reality often deviates from the ideal, so we have put out this point release to fix the issue for customers who choose (or are forced to) to run older WP versions.

If you could confirm this fixes the issue for you I’d very much appreciate it.

    Regards,

    Mark Maunder – Wordfence founder.

  • Hi Mark,
Wordfence 5.3.7 version made my website crash as I am using wordpressversion 3.8.5. However I have recently updated to wordfence 5.3.8 and all seems to be running perfectly, without having to update my wordpress version.

Thanks for your fast plugin fix ??
