• I’ve been using B2 happily for a long time, but was recently hacked. So I figure it’s time to upgrade.

The installation goes without a hitch, but of course I would like to import all my old posts and whatnot.

I find this page, https://www.wild-mind.net/archives/2004/09/12/changing-from-b2-to-wordpress/ from one of the support posts, and things start to go for me, until I get to running /wp-admin/import-b2.php. Problem is…it’s not there in 2.0!

Start looking around a bit more, find this: /wp-admin/import/b2.php and I figure I’m home free. Just one problem: it’s a zero length file.

All right…maybe I’ll just use an older version and upgrade from there. Finding those, however, seems to be quite difficult.

Is there an easy was to upgrade from B2 to 2.0?

  • It’s fairly easy.
Your upgrade path MUST be done in these steps:
    .72
    1.02
    1.2.2
    1.5.2
    2.0
Each of those steps has a database change so it’s safer to take it step by step.

    Looks complex – it isn’t.
    Essentially:
    – transfer the b2 settings into wp-config.php
    – delete the b2 files
    – upload the wp files
    – run upgrade
    – delete wp files (but NOT wp-config.php)
    – upload the next version
    – run upgrade
    – delete wp files … repeat until you get to 2.0

The only thing you may have a problem with is the theme you use now, but that can be sorted.
You MUST backup EVERYTHING and it is essential you backup the database.

All the old versions are here:

If you have any questions at all, no matter how small, ask ??

I just checked, and I’m using b2 0.6.1. Don’t I need to upgrade that to the latest version of b2 before I do anything?

Well…I futzed around a bit, and basically did this:

More or less just renamed all the b2 databases to their wp counterparts, and ran the b2-2-wp script. Seems to be working so far.

Now to upgrade the rest to 2.0.0 and we’ll be dandy. It’s on .72 now. Hey, it’s a big step for me!

You’ve really been running b2 all this time? ??

I used it many, many years ago, but switched to b2evo (WordPress was still at 1.2 then and I didn’t like it really). Once WP 1.5 came out, I moved over. Well, started over really.
