• I host my WP installation at Surpass Hosting, and I’ve regretted it ever since.

Tody at about 8:30 a.m., I called up my site in my browzer and it stopped right in the middle. I tried to reload and I got the infamous message:

    “This Account Has Been Suspended
Please contact the billing/support department as soon as possible.”

I have received no bill, and when I log into my account, I am tod that I have *no outstanding bill for service.*

After four hours, I finally received a reply to a ticket I submitted to the support department, saying that my account was suspended gor SQL database abuse.

That’s it. No information abotu how to resolve it. Just suspended. No reason for how it could have happened.

Obviously, this will end my relationshiop with Surpass Hosting. I plan to move to A Small Orange ASAP. Anyone have any ideas how I can accomplish this ASAP. Thank the Lord I did a database backup last night.

  • This is usually due to a bad plugin and/or heavy site load. There’s a number of solutions, but if you are set to move, go for it. If you have a DB backup and a PHP/HTML backup, you’re ready.

I do all my domains via Godaddy, and just moved hosting to Site5 (happy so far, but it’s early). Moving was:
    1. sign up for new service. usually they give you a method to access your website before DNS change occurs.
    2. upload DB through your preferred method.
    3. upload php/html through your preferred method.
    4. test it is all working via temp URL. (it won’t all work, as permalinks will redirect to the ‘real’ url for your site. you might be able to put a temp entry into your local hosts file to fake what your server is…).
    5. go change your DNS entries to point to the new hosts’ DNS servers.
    6. wait 24-72h for it to go through. remember to flush all caches, and reboot routers, to make sure you’re getting latest DNS yourself.

More about moves is in the Codex already…

Trouble is, I haven’t a recent backup of the files I’ve uploaded, although I’ve got the original photos and images.

I’ve been told that there’s a probem with a plugin that I recently installed (they don’t know which one) and I need to delete it. Of course, they won’t give me access to do it,
myself and they don’t seem inclined to do it themselves either.

    Surpass Hosting stinks.

I just had the EXACT same thing happen to me and I’m completely LIVID. My site garners 30,000 hits plus a day and it’s taken me 3 years to get it up to those.

I have lost customers and not to mention my reputation at having someone go to my site and see account suspended. No warning, no nothing and now they won’t even respond to our inquiries. Had they just WARNED us we could have at least TRIED to comply.

I am making it my personal mission to let everyone know what a terrible hosting company they are.

This is usually due to a bad plugin and/or heavy site load.

Feel like naming names re: bad plugins? Call it community service.
