• Hello,

I tried to create a new post with a message that was relatively long and I kept getting the a 406 error. I started to cut the message down and realized that the error would appear after a certain length. Is there a limit to how long a post can be? If so, is there a way to change the limit or get around it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • I’m also encountering the same damn problem and, quite honestly it’s very frustrating. I write short stories so, if I can only create a para/page at a time, people are going to be reading a lot of individual paragraphs!

Can someone hell, before i go bald like forhim. ??

Have you researched a bit to see what the max HTTP POST message size can be in a PHP app? I haven’t, but if I was about to lose my hair, I reckon that’s where I’d start ?? That would help you determine if the 406 is length related or some other issue.

I’ve seen some honkin’ huge essays on WP blogs, so you guys must be busting out some huge posts if that’s the issue!

Nope, nothing long at all, hence Short story. Just been looking to see if there was something hidden somewhere that mentions length, but, don’t quite know where to look. ??

Thanks for the help anyway, maybe someone will be able to illuminate for us.

    A mushroom in the dark…

Do either of you have access to your (assuming apache) web server error logs? If so, there’s likely be more information in there that might be helpful.

Thanks HandySolo, however what you just said is geek to me. ?? Sorry, My tech knowledge only goes so far.

    HandySolo,

I will try looking at the logs.

    Thanks.

Okay, it’s not length per sa, I just published a page with a huge honking list of Managers on it! Go figure.

    Maybe this is applicable?

Perhaps there are some specific characters in your rejected posts that are creating the issue.

A 406 return code indicates “Not Acceptable” for some reason, not necessarily length.

Sir you are wonderful thank you, I’ll take a look.

Alright, I did a search on this support forum and found that it could also be related to spam filters on the host. I will post a message on the support forum of my host and see what they say.

I think you are right, I edited out to words that fell together in a short story and, the page was happy to post.

    I hate censorship!

I wonder… do you two perhaps have the same host? I’ve not heard of many hosts filtering HTML POST statements for spam. Pretty radical stuff and bound to break more apps than just wordpress blogs.
