• Hi every/anyone,

I have upgraded from 1.5.2 to 2.0 (and 2.0.2) several times now, without result. Thankfully, my backup was fine, so I was able to restore my blog.

My problem is, that the blog at first glance looks to be working fine. I can see the blog home page and can click any link to a category, archive or single entry. But when that page is shown, it always is the home page again.

I think that it has to do with permalinks not working. I get a new generated default .htaccess file. But my gut feeling is, that WP is unable to handle the permalinks. I use the date/slug option, btw.

Does anyone experience similar problems? Or better, has anyone solved this issue?

Thanks to anyone in advance for the support.

    –Robert

I have created a clean install of 2.0.2 in a subdomain:

    https://test.robertvanbregt.nl/blog/

As you can see, any link (the nice permalink) that is, shows the blog home page. Strange, isn’t it?

Does anyone have a clue or some help?

Well, that’s a subdirectory of a subdomain, actually. Not the same ??
The subdomain would be this: https://test.robertvanbregt.nl/ – but that doesn’t work.
Do you have any strange redirects, subdomain pointing toward something else than itself?

Nothing strange here… I created a new subdomain through the console of my provider and then installed WP 2.0.2 exactly as I have done in the www subdomain. Just to show the world what happens in my blog, without ruining it ??

You will see that if you click a link from the home page (the permalink, a category, an archive page or a wordpress page), you never get to see anything else then the front page. the .htaccess file has been generated from scratch by WP. It looks to me that in my PHP configuration WP itself is unable to handle the nice permalinks.

BTW, my hosting provider is Lycos Europe. Their phpinfo is available at: https://www.php4u.info/

    Any suggestions?

How can I check if this is caused by a 404 error?

All your links are working for me.

I modified the .htaccess file to include a 404 error page. When entering a false url ( like https://test.robertvanbregt.nl/blog/xyz ), it does not generate a 404 error. When switching to the default permalinks ( https://test.robertvanbregt.nl/blog/?p=1 ) it generates a 404.

My conclusion: clicking a link using the nicely formatted permalinks does not trigger a 404 error. Still got the idea that WP cannot parse my permalinks.

    Am I wrong?

I use the same permalink structure as you without problems.

    For the techies:

In thread https://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,27067.0.html people are discussing mod_rewrite at Lycos.

Could it be that Lycos does not fully support / enable mod_rewrite ??

Just found a thread that refers to this page in the Codex:

    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Using_Permalinks#Fixing_Permalink_Problems

I’ll see what I can find and will post any follow-up

Still not fixed. What I’ve also noticed is, that I get redirected to a proper url, but WP is unable to show the page that goes with the url (ie a single page and so on). It always shows the home page for any url.

    Are there fixes for this??

I have exactly the same problem with Lycos Hosting since last Friday. (all permalinks point to the home page) Untill that day my own installed version of WordPress 2.02 worked without any problems on Lycos Hosting with permalinks.

It looks like they changed something on their site.

No answer from Lycos helpdesk yet.

Bump. Does anyone know of a fix for this?

Looks like it has something to do with the fact that REQUEST_URI does not return the URI, but the script name instead. Apache bug, I’ve been told. Anyone have a fix?

The plugin from boren.nu in this thread https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/80612 did not resolve anything.
