Hi fellow WP users and Gurus,

I am new to WP and want to run multiple installs of WP:
I am planning on having 3 installs of WP–one will be for personal blogging [www.mysite.com], other for coding blogs (using one of the GeSHi classes) [coding.mysite.com], and the third will be for reviews (using one of the reviews plugins) [reviews.mysite.com].

As my topic states, how can I configure my WP installs so that each blogs will use the same username and password for my members? (basically, login one place and other two blogs you are already logged in.)

the reason why I want three seperate installs is because I do not want blogs from one section to be in the same place as blogs from the other section…. [nice little partitions ?? ]

    Any help much appreciated ??

    Thanks,

    -LR

  • Don’t know that you can do that. But the really easiest way to do this is simply with one blog and separate specific categorizing to divide it up the way you want.

    Hi vkaryl,
    thanks for the reply.

    Got it!

I searched and searched but in vain: until I came across this post: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/80822?replies=12

So if anyone is looking to do something similar, take a look at that post.

    Some warnings:
    DO:
-make sure that the second (third, forth, fifth–however many blogs you want to make, this warning applies to all) blog’s database is the same as the first.

    DO NOT:
    -add the line

    define('CUSTOM_USER_TABLE', 'wp_users');

in your wp-config.php file until after you have installed the second blog

another *VERY USEFUL* post is here: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/42793?replies=8.

Both solutions are offered by Kafkaesqui (Moderator–so you know that he knows a thing or too ?? ) Thanks Kafkaesqui, you saved my day!

umm… i haven’t gotten the hang of the markup of wordpress forums, even though I edited my previous post (look above) like 20 times already, but if you are curious: DO NOT add the “code” tags into your wp-config.php file. It’s the line in between the code tags that you are going to add. Just refer to the first link in my post above to be clear on what I am saying ??

    again, sorry for the confusion.

    Shouldn’t it be:

[Moderated: “code” above fixed by one who knows a thing or ‘too’ (sic)]

    ??

    Thanks, once again ??

    EDIT:
We seriously need to add smilies to the forum feature…. conveys the message better ??

    It’s called the power to edit… ;)

Didn’t you learn how to read with your head turned 90 degrees?

*laughing* Okay, guys, enough! Yeah, “or two”….. sheesh. Cute, and happy blogging, holidays, etc.

Glad you got what you needed, linuxrush!

    Hi vkaryl,
Thanks happy blogging and holidays to you too! (and to the rest of this very good WP community.)

Yes, I am very happy that I found a way to get this to work the way I intended for it to, thanks ??

“Didn’t you learn how to read with your head turned 90 degrees?”

call me slow, but I did not get that ??

    He means seeing this

    ??

as a graphic “happy face” (goddess preserve me from same *sigh*)….

ASCII-based smilies i.e. emoticons as we are required to use here sort of demand a turn of the head for the full effect.

    (I love explaining my jokes……………… :)

And while we’re goofing off, I’d love to see this thread switched to “resolved.” ;)

hahahahaha! nevermind! <please ignore my last post>

    Done ??

“Heh…. sometimes goofing off is the best part of the day….”
    I second that ??

    Thanks in return.

And I love it when I can goof off and get things done all at the same time!

    Ehhh.

Darn it! Looks like I am back to square one!

Doing it the way Kafkaesqui suggested (by editing wp-config.php or wp-settings.php) only allows “admin” account to login.

    Here’s how to replicate this:

Install another WP blog (in the same database), then either edit wp-config.php using this thread: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/80822?replies=12

or edit wp-settings.php using this thread:
    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/42793?replies=8.

then login to your second blog (the one that you just created) using your admin account. You will see that it works. Good. Now, log out and login to your second blog again using one of the “test” users you created with the first blog. See the difference?

    It basically errors out saying:

You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.

but it works just fine for the admin account. I am sure there is a one line tweak for this in root/wp-admin/profile.php page but what?

I say this with confidence because it works for the admin account… why not for regular users account, right?

    Any thoughts Kafkaesqui?

    Best,
    -LR
